A comprehensive neuropsychological assessment for adults who need more than a brief diagnostic consultation.
The assessment provides a detailed neuropsychological profile and a diagnostic opinion about whether ADHD is supported. Findings are set against the criteria of the current diagnostic manual (DSM-5-TR), with other explanations considered. The report is written for your GP or psychiatrist to use as part of their own medical assessment and treatment planning. We do not prescribe medication.

In adults, ADHD often looks quieter than the childhood picture. Common signs are a busy mind that is easily pulled away, time and organisation that slip, and restlessness turned inward. Many people describe strong focus on what interests them alongside difficulty starting dull tasks, quick strong emotions, and years of working harder than seems fair to keep up.
What is involved
How the assessment works
- Enquiry and intake. We confirm the assessment fits your question, check funding, and provide a written estimate before booking.
- Clinical and developmental interview. Your development, schooling, work, health and current difficulties, how long they have been present and where they show up.
- Questionnaires and records. Standardised questionnaires completed by you and, with your consent, by someone who knows you well; school reports and previous assessments where they can be found.
- Cognitive testing, where it adds value. Standardised tests of attention, working memory, processing speed and executive function, in person in Southport. Cognitive testing does not prove or disprove ADHD; it clarifies strengths, co-occurring difficulties and practical strategies.
- Feedback and report. A plain-language feedback appointment and a comprehensive written report: your profile, the findings set against DSM-5-TR criteria, a diagnostic opinion and practical recommendations. With your consent, we communicate with your nominated GP or psychiatrist.
Plan for a morning or an afternoon for the testing, sometimes split across two visits. Bring glasses if you use them, a list of medications, and any school reports or previous assessments. Assessments are conducted by our clinical neuropsychologists and clinical psychologists; qualifications and registration are on the team page.

Fees and funding
A comprehensive adult neuropsychological ADHD assessment includes the interview, questionnaires, records review, cognitive testing where it adds useful information, scoring and interpretation, the feedback appointment and the written report. Assessments where autism, learning difficulties, significant mental health concerns or multiple questions also need to be considered take more time. We provide a written estimate before booking, and discuss the reason and the cost with you before any additional work. A booking fee secures your appointment and is credited to the total.
Neuropsychological assessment is not rebated under Medicare's Better Access program. NDIS funding does not usually cover assessment whose purpose is ADHD diagnosis. A separately scoped functional assessment may sometimes be funded where it relates to a participant's disability and support needs. DVA, WorkCover or insurer funding requires prior written approval. Psychological therapy after the assessment can attract a Medicare rebate with a mental health treatment plan from your GP or psychiatrist. See our fees and policies.

How much does an adult ADHD assessment cost?
The fee depends on the scope of the assessment, which we confirm in a written estimate before booking. Medicare does not rebate neuropsychological assessment. Booking fees and payment are explained on our fees and policies page.
Will I receive an ADHD diagnosis?
You receive a diagnostic opinion about whether ADHD is supported, together with a detailed neuropsychological profile. The opinion is based on your history, questionnaires, everyday functioning and test findings, set against DSM-5-TR criteria. Your GP or psychiatrist uses the report in their own assessment, including any medication decisions.
Will the report allow me to start medication?
The assessment does not include prescribing or a medical suitability assessment. A psychiatrist or a specialist GP with relevant ADHD expertise reviews the report and conducts their own medical assessment before deciding whether medication is appropriate.
What if I cannot find my school reports?
Bring any records you can find. Not having school reports does not prevent assessment; we discuss other sources of developmental information at intake.
Can the assessment be done by telehealth?
Interviews, questionnaires and feedback can be completed by secure video where suitable. Cognitive testing is completed in person in Southport.
What support is available after the assessment?
Psychological therapy for the anxiety, low mood or self-criticism that often travel with ADHD, strategy sessions for organisation, time and attention at work or study, and letters for workplace or university adjustments. Medication decisions sit with your GP or psychiatrist.
Does the assessment include autism?
The ADHD assessment may identify findings suggesting autism should be considered. A formal autism assessment involves additional procedures and is quoted separately.
